How Computer Processes Offer Inspiration for Creating Change in Our Lives.
Over the past year and a half, I have made the commitment to create a positive change in my life. In fact, this has been my journey my entire adult life and with each attempt, I ended up in the same situation. My life never seemed to progress in the direction I wanted. Where is my dream home, my soulmate and my rainfall of riches? I know many can relate. How the heck do we cross the bridge of transformation and live there, instead of always reverting back to the same status quo? Recently, I have given thought to this latest quest for change comparing it to a computer download. And why not? The working of our brains is as intricate as computers, even the greatest scientists among us haven’t figured out exactly how we’re wired. Wired, yes, and here we go into my analogy. Last year when I first attempted this transformation I started back into a vigorous yoga routine, started seeing a meditation therapist and was provided tools to transform not only my thought process, but my emotions, and while fantastic, I easily fell back into negative habits and became frustrated with myself and others. Why wasn’t I transforming? Why isn’t my life perfect? Where is the love of my life? Ugh! I shake my fists at the cosmos. “Darn you universe and your secrets!” According to some sources, all I need to do is set my intentions, send out positive vibrations and the world is naturally supposed to turn in my favor. Does the universe hate me? I soon realized this was just step one in the transformation phase – Initializing. Imagine a computer downloading new program or an app. First it initializes finding available space in the hard drive and reorganizing files. To make transformative change in our life, we have to first make space for it. This may include getting rid of physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual clutter. We may even need to remove ourselves from toxic people. In order to successfully change our lives, we need to create a solid foundation for that change, until then, there is nothing for this great work we’re doing to stick, and we end up stuck again. Having studied various types of meditations throughout my life, the most impactful for me has been nada and mantra yoga – chanting. It helps calm my meandering monkey mind. I have to admit, this practice transformed my life once before, I’m sure it will do it again. So, after a year of making space for my change, and inviting in new ideas and suggestions from experts in the field of meditation and self-development. On New Years’ Eve 2017, I created my own process – one I knew worked for me, one I enjoyed and one I would stick to. It was intervals of chanting the chakras and meditation journaling, and wow, what a difference. I define this as “processing.” The process is different for everyone and that’s often why we get frustrated in the initialization phase, and don’t engage in a process that works best for us. We read books, attend lectures and take guided practices and often fall short. This is because we are lending ourselves to someone else’s process. Because it worked for them, does not mean it will be effective in our transformational download. We need to learn from the experts, but then become our own personal experts. Finding our own process of evolution is empowering and life changing. Once initialized and processing is proceeding, we begin with the new download, a rewiring of our brain, an altering of our emotional core and possibly even spiritual beliefs. This new download becomes imbedded in our cells and true transformation can begin. We are literally changing ourselves at a cellular level. The irony of this transformation is becoming aware of the subtleties of change. I can feel my transformation, a huge difference in my life, and yet I am okay with the fact I have yet to achieve my desires – success and a soulmate. We sense this with our everyday contact with people – friendlier and more open. We may be less triggered in traffic and resist flipping off an annoying driver (I can attest I flip off a lot less drivers since my transformation began. I am much calmer on the road). Once we enter the transformational phase, everything we think we wanted in the beginning is no longer important. The irony is, we are more content with our “status quo.” We are no longer desperate to change our present lives. We no longer grasp for the higher rung on life’s latter, reaching for the golden carrot society dangles before us. We gain acceptance and gratitude for what we have now. Imagine that. While a computer’s memory may eventually fill, for humans our capacity for transformation is ongoing. Life is a constant stream of initializing, processing, downloading and transforming. We are in constant shifting states and in this place anything is possible, perhaps even success and our soulmate.
